Closed Circuit Draeger FGGIIIThe Draeger FGG and FGT rebreathers are a very sturdy well made rebreather. They are a semi-closed unit, and can be used as such very successfully, but for the diving we do, semi-closed has a number of limitations. They do however make a great base unit for modification to fully closed operation as Draeger build quality is superb. All that is required is to pull out all the SCR stuff and whack in the goodies to make it CCR. For info on the conversion of the FGG to electronically controlled fully closed mixed gas diving, select the pages using the menu at the left. If you want to see how FGT owner Dave Sutton has improved his semi-closed FGT, go to his excellent site at Diver Daves Rebreather Pages.
When I first got hold of the FGG III, I thought I'd have it up and running as a Closed Circuit unit in about three months. It actually took two and a half years! This was due to the work being an on and off sort of thing, sometimes going for months at a time with nothing being done, and also a fair bit of time diving the unit as an SCR. After extensive testing, and a number of deep dives, the unit has now been returned to standard factory configuration, mainly due to the fact that I love diving my Mk15.
