Discovery

PoolThe Pearse Resurgence was first dived in 1975. Exploration didn't really start in earnest until the late 90's, and there has only been a handful of visits. In 1995 a New Zealand team went in to film a documentary, and during this trip one of their divers was lost. In 1997, Dave Apperley, Richard Taylor, and Tim Cashman explored the cave, and during this trip recovered the body of Dave Weaver from what is now Weaver's Ledge at 85 metres.

At the moment there are three groups of people diving this cave. Ours is one, another is Ed and his team from Diverse Divers in Nelson who visit once a year, around February, and there is apparently a group from Auckland who visit once a year also. If you have any information about this group, please let me know and I'll update the site.
